On September 13, 2023, the European Parliament decided to adopt several amendments to Parliament’s Rules of Procedure with a view to strengthening integrity, independence and accountability.
On September 14, 2023, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the regulation of prostitution in the European Union. The resolution concentrates on cross-border implications of this phenomenon as well as its impact on gender equality and women’s rights.
On July 18, 2023, the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions held a hearing entitled “Potential Consequences of FinCEN’s Beneficial Ownership Rulemaking”. The testimony unanimously underscored serious gaps in the rulemaking for the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). The Beneficial Ownership Information reporting element of the CTA is scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2024.
On August 31, 2013, following a nine-day trial, a federal jury in Fayetteville, Arkansas convicted four men of investment fraud and money laundering conspiracy in a scheme that cheated victims out of more than $18 million.

On August 30, 2023, Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili of the Lusaka Magistrate Court in Zambia ordered the eleven suspects implicated in both the gold scam and espionage case to remain in custody until further notice. The Director of Public Prosecutions charged the eleven suspects, including six Zambians and five Egyptians, with espionage as a result of their alleged connection to the gold scam after flights from Egypt landed at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) on August 13.
On August 31, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said it had seized a bronze statue believed to represent the famous Roman statesman Marcus Aurelius, which has been since 1986 in the Greek and Roman galleries at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
On August 29, 2023, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a multinational operation with law enforcement actions in the U.S., France, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Romania, and Latvia to disrupt the botnet and malware known as Qakbot and take down its infrastructure. The law enforcement operations are deleting the Qakbot malicious code from victim computers, preventing it from causing more harm. The DOJ also announced the seizure of approximately $8.6 million in cryptocurrency in illicit profits.
On July 10th, the Illinois State Museum repatriated 37 wooden memorial statues, known as Vigango, to Kenya. In 2018 the museum became aware that the statues were obtained through forceful, unethical, and illegal means.
